FAQ:

Stem mastering offers the mastering engineer greater creative control by processing groups of similar instruments (stems) from the final mix, allowing for detailed adjustments to tonal balance, dynamics, and gain staging. In contrast, stereo mastering processes a single, final stereo mix file, focusing on adjusting the overall loudness and correcting imperfections in the mix as a whole.

The best audio formats for mastering are uncompressed WAV or AIFF files, ideally at the highest native bit depth and sample rate your recording session used, such as 24-bit/44.1kHz or higher. These formats preserve all original audio data, offering the best quality and dynamic range for our mastering engineer to work with. Avoid compressed formats like MP3, WMA, or M4A, as they have already discarded data, which can negatively impact the mastering process and result in lower quality.

Aim to keep your mix peaks below 0dBFS, with common recommendations for peak levels between -6dBFS and -3dBFS to give the mastering engineer space for processing without introducing clipping or distortion. Always avoid clipping and excessive limiting on the final mixdown file.

Mastered tracks are usually delivered within 3 or 4 days of receiving an order.

We will securely store your files for up to 1 year on our servers, so you can always ask for a backup copy in that timeframe in case of a lost or misplaced file.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Bypass Any Mastering Plugins
Make sure any master compression or limiting is turned off.

2. Lower your Master Bus Volume
Until the loudest part of the track is peaking around -6 dB.

3. Export Settings
We recommend your export to be as WAV, 24-bit, 44.1kHz.

4. Number of stems
You can export up to 10 stems. Group all your bass in one channel, all your drums in another, and so forth with synths and other groups of instruments.

5. Make sure that stems play in sync
Once you have exported all of your stems, align all of them in your DAW and make sure they are all playing in sync. This is very important as some plugins can cause unwanted delays that need to be corrected on the spot.

Same as you would for mixing only. The master will be derived from the mix. Therefore just read the instructions for “How do I prepare my files for mixing?”.
